Pioglitazone drug commonly known as the Actos is used to treat the
patients suffering from diabetes of type 2.the drug, Pioglitazone
received an approval from the FDA on 16th of July in 1999.This oral
treatment for diabetes 2, was thus approved by the United States
(US) Food and drug Administration as Takeda Pharmaceuticals
American, Inc’s and Eli Lilly & Co’s actos.
In July 2003 American Association noticed that this drug was given
even to patients suffering from heart problems and so a requirement
to keep a check on its prescription was needed. Thus in July 2004
FDA included some warning sections with the actos.
The approval of these pills by the FDA was not on mere notices. This
approval was based on a review of clinical trails and studies by
double-blind, placebo controlled department, which was the data from
six US departments. These in all included around 4500-5000 patients
who suffered from diabetes of type 2.FDA also examined the
combination of Pioglitazone or the actos with different drugs like
metformin, sulfonylureas. In each of these cases different results
were obtained that showed considerable amount of reduction in the
blood glucose levels.
This proved that actos have many more options to be offered than
used alone with better results. This product is saled under the name
Diavista and the manufacturer is Dr Reddy. The data transmitted by
FDA had some positive approach towards Actos.According to these
reports Actos have the additional blood glucose lowering advantages
that is offered by none other medicines or drugs that help to reduce
the sugar or the glucose levels in the body, where only dietary
changes have less effect to control the diabetes of type 2.Thus the
treatment with Actos in the near future can be considered as the
best.
