Many medicines available these days have some or the other side
effects. The severity of side effects depends from person to person.
The very common side effects seen with Pioglitazone are disturbances
in vision or seeing (that is blurred vision), putting on weight,
less sensitivity of sense of touch, anemia, arthralgia that is
relating the pains in the joints, headache, haematuria that is flow
of blood with the urine and oedema which results in swelling. Other
severe side effects with this drug are impotence that is erectile
dysfunction, removal of proteins in the urine and also glycosuria
which is presence of sugar and glucose in the urine. Some moderate
side effects are insomnia which is related to difficulty in
sleeping, dizziness, flatulence which means gathering of excess gas
in the stomach and sweating. The combination of Pioglitazone with
sulphonylurea may lead to low blood glucose level called as
hypoglycaemia.
Severe allergic reactions may also occur due to the side effect of
this drug. The common skin problems like rashes, itching and
swelling on the face have been noticed.Symtoms of heart failure and
liver problems have also been very severe side effect as seen in the
past results.
Of these headaches, sore throat, weight gain and also pain in the
muscles and the joints are the most frequently occurring problems.
Any drug having side effects does not mean that it may be suffered
by all. If the medicines taken under the supervision of the doctors
and at proper manner may help to avoid the side effects.
